The Summer of Mojito...

Contrary to the weather lately in Van, summer is just around the corner. The recent trend of patio sippers are swaying towards the Cuban classic Mojito. Although many variations of fruit have been added to this classic, the traditional is still going strong. Try Havana patio on Commercial Drive on a beautiful sunny day to enjoy yours... it also comes in pitcher form at Havana's for those lazy Sunday afternoons ;)

A mojito is traditionally made of five ingredients: rum, sugar (traditionally sugar cane juice), lime, carbonated water and mint. Its combination of sweetness and refreshing citrus and mint flavors are intended to mask the potent kick of the rum, and have made this clear cocktail a popular summer drink, and a stated favorite of Hemingway. Many hotels in Havana also add Angostura bitters to cut the sweetness of the mojito; while a popular variation, it is not the original version created in La Bodeguita del Medio (aka Mojito).

Funny, side bar, this time of year is also when Vancouver usually whips into a playoff frenzy as well. Enough said....

Ohhhh, Schitz Popinov!!
