Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius and B.Dolan

The Schitz Camp was fortunate enough to snag an exclusive interview with Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip and furthermore catch the last show on their North American Tour. Nicest guys around and humble as…well…humble pie I guess. Their mothers must be proud. Mr. Pip has a dark side however…yes yes he does. As we sat down to do the interview, Pip brought with him his lap top which was in the process of spanning the interscope. The final location was a cage fight where an absolute monster of a man was about to crush a not so monster of a man. Anyway the feed was lost as soon as the main event was suppose to start so we got his full attention. Update: Ive since learned that the monster actually lost the fight….the bigger they are the harder they fall I suppose.

Schitz: The new album Angles has been out for a minute now and one of the tracks is called "Find Your Woman". We're wondering if you have found your woman yet and if not whatcha lookin for??

DLS vs. SP: Both of us have found our women yeah. That track is acutally about Dan's last woman before the one he's with now. The tracks referring to the transitional phase between two women which is kinda awful haha... We've found ours though now and they're dope.

Schitz: You guys have just signed alongside fellow Canadian Buck 65, we're wondering what the last thing you bought for a Buck 65 was??

DLS vs. SP: I reckon its the packets of Oreo cakes, we don't have em in England and we've been buying em non stop...Hershey's wadchamacullits too...nugget,caramel and peanuts....mmmm happy place. We should actually buy something for a Buck 65 for a Buck 65 yeah??

Schitz: You say in your song "Thou Shalt Always Kill" not to put bands on pedestals. Who in popular music today do you feel has been put on the most undeserved highest of pedestal??

DLS vs. SP:
Dan Le Sac vs. Scroopius Pips Answer

Schitz: Fake Blood recently remixed one of your tracks......who are they???

DLS vs. SP: ha...Nooooooooooobody knowwwwwws...its a secret. All I got is an email for Fake Blood. Pip: I was at a festival once and it was really late and Fake Blood were playing and I started to hear my voice saying Fake Blood but i'd never recorded myself saying Fake Blood so it was pretty cool hearing how they chopped it up blasting over the loud speakers....

Schitz: When do you guys tend to write your music, day or night??

DLS vs. SP: All the time. Hammertime. Millertime. Greenwhich Mean Time. We write mostly in our own country but we're always writing pieces here and there.Pip: I write lots on my phone which isn't always a good idea cus I lost a phone at a festival once and lost like 3 tracks so...yeah... Dan: We're going to take some time off in the new year to actually sit down and write but its kind of a constant process.

Dan: Didn't you have a clock that said Hammertime??
Pip: Yeah I got it as a gift. I was told it was an exceptional time piece that always told perfect time all the time to the absolute second...the watch scrambled out all the numbers and it wrote hammertime so it actually was the most accurate time piece. Hammertime all the time....

Schitz: How does your style of music fit in with todays current flux of genre bending/blending trends???

DLS vs. SP: We think thats exactly why it does. The fact that we don't really fit into a specific genre makes us fit into every genre. James Murphy from LCD makes a joke in one of his tracks that he was the first cat to play Daft Punk to the rock kids...and its kinda that. There always seems to be a portion of a night where the music strays a bit from the genre your actually there for and theres that crossover where people will accept it and here whats good in it. Thats largely due to the internet as well. You don't need to spend money anymore to hear a specific genre. Its so accesible now and people tend to broaden their scope on whats good and whats not and what they'll listen and what they won't.

Review of Show
I had in my mind going into the show a kinda more laid back atmosphere. Spoken word / poetry/ rhymes over top of some beats. Nahhh....uh uh. A good portion of Dan Le Sac Le Selecta’s beats were in the 160 BPM range…we’re talking DNB rhythms. The crowd was into it from the beginning and the boys never lost anyones attention. Pip incorporates into his shows a number of props to help convey his poetry. My fave was the periodic table of elements where I actually learned the whole table. All of it. I’ve actually sent a resume to the NASA Space program so this might be my last post cus I’m expecting to be an astronaut by the end of the week. The stand out moment for me was their hit single from the new album Angles “Look for the Woman” This first track is a repeat post by us Schitzrrrs but needed....

I should mention the opening act as well. I went in knowing nothing about B. Dolan except that he is on the same label (Strange Famous Records) as Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip and fellow Canadian Buck 65. I left however a fan of the man, a cd (which he tried to give me but I demanded to pay) and an urge to jump the water show at the Bellagio in Las Vegas on my 1979 Honda 50cc motorcycle. Try to catch Mr. B.Dolan if he ever roles through your neck of the woods. He puts on a memorable show and listen close to the words he is saying as there is a substantial amount of substance in what is being amplified into your brains.

A quick thanks to Dan and Pip for their time and thank you to Aaron at the Biltmore Cabaret for booking them. This venue is up and running again and fully renovated and is one of the best venues in the city for sure.

There’s a perfect seguay….Schitz Popinov has been asked to be the House DJs at the Biltmore Cabaret so you can catch us there 3,4 or 5 times a week depending on the schedule. We’ll be keeping you around after the main shows and we’ll have our own nights happening as well. Look for the new new section on the blog bout whats happening and where we’ll be Schit’ing next.
