A little Bassnectar of the Godz.....

It's funny how much fun it is to describe dub in text and it still makes sense....

Bow....wuh..wuh..wuh..wa...Bow...wuh.wa..woooooooow..wum....wum...wa...wahhhh.wum...bap.bap.......so on and so forth.....

The dub sound has poked it's head from the underground through time and has even jumped into the canoe and travelled down the 'main' stream a little. It's undeniably one of the ultimate styles of music to sit back, relax and "cough, cough" enjoy some herbal, erm, tea whilst listening to. One of the biggest if not the biggest name in the craft is Bassnectar. Although you can't put just one genre label on the Bassnectar sound. His sound is more elements of midtempo breakbeats, big beat, old school hip hop and dub, DnB, glitch, IDM, electronica, death metal, grindcore, punk rock, alternative, folk, swing, and jazz; and sampling anything from the human history of sound and music. Gasp.....

Lorin Ashton hails from San Francisco, CA and began working as a DJ and remixer under the Bassnectar name in the late 1990s. Let's av a listen shall we....

Bassnectar - Heads Up

Bassnectar - Roustabout (Bassnectar Remix)

I love the desciption of his sound on his myspace.....

Wobbling, churning, surging soundtracks in any form or mood, combining explosive basslines with everything plus the kitchen sync....omnitempo maximalism quivering gush-hop and multi-directional meltdown music. No rules, no limits, no boundaries.

Fuckin' sign me up.....

Ask and you shall recieve Hawk∑ye.....

Not to be outdone but the amazingly talented Z-trip is opening for Dr.Nectar Saturday November 22nd at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancity. Hope you all get a chance to catch him when he rolls through your parts.
